Pet Urgent Care Policies


Pet Urgent Care is equipped and prepared to handle any pet emergency with skill, speed and compassion of veterinary professionals. Most of our patients arrive as a result of severe trauma or illness. They've been hit by a car, have deep puncture wounds or lacerations, or may have ingested poisonous toxins. Your regular vet may also refer your pet to us for critical care monitoring. Whatever the case, Pet Urgent Care is here when you need us.

Appointments & Wait Times:
Since emergency appointments are unscheduled, patients are seen according to the severity of their condition. Those with the most serious and life-threatening conditions are seen first. Due to the required medical and surgical needs of some of our more critical patients, your wait time may be longer than we would like. At Pet Urgent Care we value your time and will always do our best to minimize your wait time and appreciate your patience.

Phone Consultations:
Due to the serious and sensitive nature of emergency and critical care veterinary medicine, Pet Urgent Care does not give advice or medical diagnoses over the phone or through email. Your pet's health is very important to us and we believe that in order to give you and your pet the best possible care, we must see your pet before we can give an accurate diagnosis and/or advice.

How to Prepare for Your Hospital Visit:
Please bring all relevant medical records and any medications or prescriptions that your pet is currently taking. If your pet has ingested something, bring a sample with its packaging to help us identify the toxin and take appropriate countermeasures. If you are pet-sitting and not the owner, please bring contact information for the owner. We recommend that you to take all personal belongings (towels, blankets, carriers, leashes, collars, toys, etc.) with you when you leave the hospital. If you prefer to leave a comfort item with your pet, we can not guarantee its return and Pet Urgent Care will not be responsible for the loss of any personal items. For the safety of you, your pet and other clients, we require that your pet be either on a leash or in a pet carrier while in the lobby. Upon arrival, our reception staff will greet you, inform you of the current exam/consultation fee and will ask you to fill out and sign the necessary paperwork so that we may better serve you and diagnose your pet's condition.


In the event that you suspect your pet may have ingested a potentially poisonous substance, we ask that you call or visit the ASPCA Poison Control Center (http://www.aspca.org/apcc) so that you may take immediate counteractive measures before transporting to our facility.


Please Note:  A $60 consultation fee may be applied to your credit card.

Pet Visitation:
We know that being separated from your pet is very stressful and we make every effort to allow you to visit with your pet while they are in our hospital care. Due to the nature of our services, we can not always allow you to stay with your pet in the treatment or surgical rooms. Quite often we are required to perform emergency procedures that would be hampered by having extra people in our treatment area. We ask that you be considerate and understanding in these situations if we ask you to return to the lobby.

Medical Fees:
Each patient is charged an emergency fee that covers the doctor’s initial examination and consultation. Additional fees are charged for diagnostics and treatments required by your pet’s condition. An estimate for these charges will be presented and discussed with you in advance. Please note, emergency care can be very costly. These costs reflect the expense of maintaining a fully staffed, state-of-the-art facility. If you have any financial concerns, please let us know.

Payment is due in full when your pet is discharged. You may be asked to submit a deposit before any treatment is provided. We accept Mastercard, VISA, American Express and Discover card as well as ATM/debit cards, checks and cash. Our services can not be billed through your regular veterinary clinic.


Patient Check Out and Discharge:

Pet Urgent Care ONLY provides after-hours, weekend, and holiday emergency services and is not open during the day when other veterinary facilities are. Therefore, we ask that you arrive no later than 7:45 a.m. for patient discharge and checkout. We close at 8:00 a.m. and want to make sure all preparations and paperwork have been completed so that you may safely transfer your pet to your regular veterinarian.
